“See! The Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Remain each of you in his place; let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.” – Exodus 16:29 (ESV)
This verse speaks so eloquently to who God is, how He interacts with us, and what He designed day-to-day living to look like.
He provides bread for us every day of the week.
On the sixth day, He gives us a double portion to cover us for the day of rest, so that we can fully rest.
And, of course, He gives rest.
Rest is a gift. His provisions are gifts. Our bodily needs are not beneath His care or notice, and He provides so that we might fully embrace rest.
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” – Matthew 7:11 (ESV)
“It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.” – Psalms 127:2 (ESV)
