Leviticus 6:13 really spoke to me today about identity, which has been an unexpected theme this past week.
“Fire shall be kept on the altar continually…” We all have passion – fire within us – that must be placed on the altar of the Lord. Fleshly passions are offered on the altar to be eradicated. Passions with the potential to give life are offered for refinement so that they benefit and bring peace to God’s people.
No passion, dream, hope, desire, or emotion we have is exempt from the necessity of sacrificing it to the Lord. And these “fires” must stay on the altar continually, because they’re destructive forces anywhere but in the hands of the Lord.
But we serve a God who can travel as a pillar of fire! We serve a God who can ignite a bush without consuming it – and then speak from it!! It is a JOY to place our passions on His altar, because He can direct and utilize fire in a way we never could.
And even if that weren’t true, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (Psalm 24:1). Everything we have, and everything we are, belongs to Him.
